The Waikuku Artists Incorporated was first formed in 2005 when two professional artists, Steve and Mary Bessant, decided to get a group of like minded people from Waikuku together.

On the second weekend of February each year, the WAI holds its annual exhibition. Opening night is always eagerly anticipated by the exhibiting artists and the wider community.

The first WAI exhibition was held in 2005 at the Waikuku Beach Hall, where it continued until 2011 when the exhibition moved to the iconic Brick Mill on Main North Road.

The WAI includes both professional and emerging artists. Over the years, some of the members have moved away whilst new members have joined, adding plenty of diversity.

A FREE to enter sand-sculpture competition in organised each year, at the beginning of January, which is getting bigger and better every year!

Workshops are run throughout the year, of which most are open to the general community to join in and some are closed to members only. Past workshops have included life drawing, flax weaving and stone carving.

Inspiration is all around us – we live in a beautiful place and it’s a privilege to share it with
such a fantastic, talented community of artists.
